Super Heroes - IN SHAPE!TM

Grades 1 & 2 Mathematics - Geometry and sense of space

    "Identify, compare, describe and draw, with the help of props the various shapes and their 3-D formes, especially the square, triangle, circle, rectangle, pyramid, and both circular and rectangular prisms."

Workshop description

Using visual art and theatre techniques and exercises, the kids will have a chance to learn and create through movement and role playing what the new colonists learned from the 1st nations people, the aboriginals, and how they helped them adapt and survive in the new world.

Working in groups, by the end of the workshop the kids will have created a theatre tableau depicting one story which teaches a lesson (e.g. how to hunt in a group, how to make food grow faster, etc..) and they will have made a take away book of their learnings.

Some curricular links may include:

    - the beginnings and usefulness of geometry - historical context
    - identify and draw the shapes and 3-D formes
    - create a superhero costume and movements
    - identify shapes in their environment
